A New Direction What seemed like a move toward retirement for Carol Wallace was just another door opening Starting a consultancy and easing into semi-retirement after 35 years of venues industry service appears to have been one of those best-laid plans that went a bit astray for former San Diego Convention Center Corp. President and CEO Carol Wallace. Now president and CEO of San Diego Theatres Inc., the nonprofit entity that runs the San Diego Civic Theatre and Balboa Theatre, Wallace was still with the SDCC and owned an impressive resume in 2012 when some of the center’s sales and marketing functions were shifted to the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau and moves to expand the center stalled.  Wallace started Carol Wallace & Associates, which offers consulting services in the areas of venue management, marketing and communications, staffing, facility development and expansion. Schedule Due Soon for Orlando PAC’s Outdoor Series

Virgin Money Unity Arena in Newcastle, England, provided inspiration for the Orlando festival. Dr. Phillips Center’s Front Yard Festival to launch in December The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has secured $500,000 to launch a socially distanced outdoor live event series that is set to debut in early December on its Seneff Arts Plaza. The funds come from Orlando’s Community Redevelopment Agency and Orange County. The Orlando City Council initially approved $250,000 for what’s being called the Front Yard Festival. The county subsequently matched that amount through a grant from United Arts of Central Florida, Dr. Phillips Center spokeswoman Lorri Shaban said. United Arts is a nonprofit organization that provides millions of dollars annually to support the arts. The schedule of ticketed and free events for the six-month festival will be announced next week, along with sponsorships and other details, Shaban said. The new coalition is working toward the day when members can welcome back full-size crowds. (Courtesy New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center) Six complexes get ‘on the same page’ for reopening Six New Jersey convention centers have joined forces to coordinate protocols and measures to ensure operations resume after the pandemic shutdown in as safe and responsible a manner as possible. The Spectra-managed Atlantic City Convention Center, the state’s largest with over 1 million square feet, spearheaded the effort to form the group, the New Jersey Convention Center Coalition. It also includes the Cape May Convention Center, Meadowlands Convention Center, New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, Ocean City Music Pier/Civic Center and Wildwoods Convention Center.
