Rendering of the new Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center

The Charlotte (N.C.) Regional Visitors Authority has approached the Charlotte city council with plans to spend at least $100 million to renovate the Charlotte Convention Center in an attempt to modernize and compete with similar-sized cities like Nashville, Tenn., and Austin, Texas. The current Charlotte Convention Center opened in 1995 and cost $150 million to build.
