Kate McMartin
General Manager, Isleta Amphitheater
Kate McMartin has gone from runner to running the 15,000-capacity Isleta Amphitheater in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Growing up, she had a close-knit group of friends who shared a passion for live music spending countless nights at venues in downtown Albuquerque.
“I was captivated by the behind-the-scenes life of the industry,” recalled McMartin. “That curiosity sparked a passion I’ve pursued since I was sixteen. My first role was a part-time runner at Isleta Amphitheater, eventually leading to an opportunity to be the operations manager at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in Phoenix.”
In her role as general manager of Isleta, she is passionate about cultivating an environment where people feel empowered to grow in the industry.
“I focus on developing new leaders and inspiring those committed to creating careers in this field,” McMartin said. “Additionally, I’m dedicated to elevating the profile of Isleta Amphitheater, a beautiful venue that’s a standout destination where fans love to make memories, artists love to perform and our crew loves to spend the season.”
She takes her commitment to making her team feel appreciated and valued seriously.
“I love getting to know my crew personally and going the extra mile, especially understanding their favorite artists and making their experience special when they perform at our venue,” McMartin said. “Seeing the joy and excitement on their faces is so fulfilling, and those little touches make our work truly special.”
Early mentors played a part in her hands-on management style, crediting Isleta production manager Brian “Barnsie” Barnes, Talking Stick’s Brandon Sirochman, and Live Nation southwest regional president Terry Burke, who she referred to as a role model.
Being drawn to the industry from an early age, McMartin has advice for the next generation of live professionals.
“Be reliable, be encouraging and be someone people want to be around,” McMartin said. “If you want a career in this business, you have to show up, work hard, and not be afraid to say ‘yes’ to all the opportunities presented and try out different roles.”
As a millennial, McMartin relates to all generations of fans and colleagues, remembering and appreciating paper tickets while embracing the importance of technology.
McMartin is also inspired by the growing number of women in leadership positions across the live industry.
“Women bring unique perspectives and approaches, which is essential in driving innovation and growth,” explained McMartin. “I’m especially proud to be part of Live Nation, a company that consistently listens to, supports, and champions women in leadership. It’s an exciting time for the industry, and I’m eager to see how this trend continues to shape the future.”
