Figure skating legend Michelle Kwan on Tom Collins How did you meet Tom Collins? I believe I met Tom at a competition when I was 12 years old. I remember being in complete awe of him because he was the owner of the skating show that I admired so much.  What did you like most about working with him? It was an amazing experience performing on Champions on Ice. Tommy took care of all the skaters like they were his kids. When we traveled to perform, he made sure that we had the nicest rooms, most comfortable buses — it was like one big happy family on a long skating road trip around the country.  What was his impact on your career in skating? In Memoriam: Tom Collins 1931-2019

(Champions on Ice) Champions on Ice founder ‘had an impact on everyone he met’ Kenneth Feld and Tom Collins were much younger men when they met — “This was before I was even working part time,” recalled Feld, CEO of Feld Entertainment — but the years seemed to change little. “I can’t believe he was 88,” Feld said. “I always felt like he was a young, vibrant person who had so much positive energy and was one of the friendliest people I knew.” Collins died Sept. 1 of natural causes surrounded by his family at his Edina, Minn., home.
