LA Will host multiple major events across the city

The last weekend before Halloween tends to be a wild one in Los Angeles and when it comes to live events, 2024’s version might serve as a look into how the City of Angels handles what amounts to a special kind of witching hour.

Few cities have the range and breadth of LA when it comes to sports and entertainment venues, one of the reasons it was chosen to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Start with Game 1 of the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees at Dodger Stadium, which starts at 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall, also downtown, has “An Evening of Film & Music: From Mexico to Hollywood” on tap at 8 p.m. The program is co-curated by John Williams and Gustavo Dudamel and features the music of Mexican cinema mixed with Hollywood classics.

Steps from the Frank Gehry-designed Disney is Grand Park, where an ongoing display of 20 Dia de los Muertos altars created by local artists and community organizations will be viewable for free.

Down the Figueroa Corridor a few miles, USC will host Rutgers in a Big 10 Friday night clash few could have foreseen a few years ago. The Jerseyans from the birthplace of college football visit a 100-year-old, well-renovated Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to take on one of the most storied programs in the West.

In Inglewood, where the NBA Clippers opened their season at the new Intuit Dome on Thursday night. SoFi Stadium will host the East LA Classic, which pits Garfield High School against Roosevelt High School. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Meanwhile, Intuit Dome has David Gilmour on the bill for a 7:30 p.m. start. At 8 p.m., the adjacent YouTube Theater is presenting Erick de Jesús Aragón Alcantar and Codiciado.

Also in Hollywood Park, Cosm LA will show the sold-out Game 1 of the World Series.

In actual Hollywood, the Hollywood Bowl is mercifully dark, but nearby, at The Ford, Willow and Arc Iris have an 8 p.m., and over at the Greek Theatre in the Hollywood Hills, War is scheduled, also at 8 p.m.
