Ginny Sze
Marketing Manager, BMO Stadium and LAFC
Ginny Sze’s journey into the live event business started with her upbringing in São Paulo, Brazil, and education at the Northeastern University in Boston.
She developed a passion for the industry after attending a number of live events.
Sze, who started in event management before shifting to marketing manager, has been at BMO Stadium since the Los Angeles venue opened in 2018, the year of LAFC’s first season in MLS.
“Being a part of the stadium’s inaugural year and LAFC’s first season was so special and exciting,” she said. “From soccer to concerts to private events, this place is always buzzing. We’ve seen LAFC win the MLS Cup at home, the launch of ACFC, LA’s first NWSL team, iconic acts like Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses, Queen + Adam Lambert and Iron Maiden perform and rising acts like BLACKPINK, John Summit, Fuerza Regida hold their first stadium shows here.”
Going from managing events to marketing them has given Sze a view of “both sides,” she said, giving her a unique perspective.
Sze, who counts her parents’ support and encouragement as essential to laying a foundation for her professional success, says she thrives on the teamwork and collaboration fostered at BMO Stadium, which has made for smooth transitions and pivots when putting on a diverse schedule of events.
“The teamwork drives me and helps elevate all of us to the next level,” she said.
From concerts to soccer matches and private events, the small team’s ability to excel in a competitive market hinges on “teammates who believe in the growth and success of this place and helped grow it to what it’s become in our six short years,” Sze said.
“I’ve always embraced the mindset that no task is too insignificant or too challenging, which has helped me find creative solutions,” she said, adding that “seasoned managers took time to teach me about their experience in the events and hospitality industry.”
She noticed how they work under pressure in a fast-paced industry and came away with a guiding principle: “The foundation of a successful event is putting the guest experience first.”
For her part, Sze aims to mentor and support the next generation of live event industry professionals, “sharing the lessons I’ve learned and encouraging a collaborative, innovative culture.”
