Becky Colwell
GM, Kia Forum | VP Music & Events, Intuit Dome
As general manager of one of the busiest concert venues in the world, and with the opening of the $2 billion-plus looming in August, Becky Colwell has a lot of responsibilities on the job. That means a lot of responsibility to the fans in attendance, too.
“We’ve continued to host a wide variety of events to meet the entertainment needs of all fans,” she says, noting boxing and wrestling events, K-pop concerts by Suga and Mamamoo, comedic performances from Jo Koy, Jerry Seinfeld, Latin concerts by Maná and Rauw Alejandro, as well as rock bands like the Eagles and Arctic Monkeys, “All while prepping to open Intuit Dome in August.”
She says the Intuit Dome, the new home of the NBA Los Angeles Clippers spearheaded by owner Steve Ballmer, will complement Kia Forum, also owned by Ballmer and long known as an artist and fan favorite for concerts. “Trust me when I say that you won’t be disappointed,” she says.
Naming her first female boss, venue executive veteran Dolly Vogt, as a mentor, Colwell says, “Women have always played a remarkable role in live entertainment and it’s only getting bigger and better. I’m proud to work closely with many women in our organization, including our president, as well as female GMs, tour managers, agents, and managers.”
Following years that saw historic residencies by Harry Styles and Mana, Colwell says Dead & Company was a recent highlight, demonstrating the band’s relationship with devoted fans.
The 18,000-seat Intuit Dome is in Inglewood, across the street from SoFi Stadium and Kia Forum, which means Colwell shouldn’t have much trouble splitting time between the two.
“The consistent lesson I’ve learned is to work hard but enjoy he ride,” said Colwell, who previously served as general manager for the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and, before that, general manager of Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, North Carolina.
“This is the most exciting industry to be a part of and it’s important to remember the joy we’re able to bring thousands of people with the events we host.”
