‘Give Us a Date!’ U.K. Venues Tell Parliament

Witnesses including musical composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, Melvin Benn of Festival Republic and Lucy Noble of the Royal Albert Hall told the U.K. Parliament on Tuesday that the live events sector needs a target date for resuming fully attended shows to give venues the opportunity to prepare for the return of audiences.

(Alexander Schliephake) How Hamburg’s venues are preparing for a pandemic-proof Reeperbahn Festival Reeperbahn Festival is planning a pandemic-proof edition. While the conference part of the Sept. 16-19 event will take place online only, live concerts are scheduled to go ahead in Hamburg, Germany — at greatly reduced capacities and featuring mostly local bands. Organizers are planning about 120 concerts as well as 30 program items from the fields of arts, word and film. They’ll use 20 venues, including, as things stood in mid-August, five open-air stages. The approved open-air capacities vary between 30 visitors in the Molotow Backyard and 850 visitors in front of a newly created stage on the Heiligengeistfeld, an area used for exhibitions in Hamburg’s St. Pauli quarter. Berlin Amphitheater Schedules Concerts

The Waldbühne’s capacity of 22,260 will be reduced to 5,000 for the September shows. Semmel Concerts lines up Waldbühne shows for September The Waldbühne amphitheater, considered one of the most scenic outdoor stages in Germany, will reopen at reduced capacity Sept. 3-4 with two concerts by Roland Kaiser. Capacity will be limited to 5,000 guests who agree to comply with COVID-19 safety measures. The Waldbühne usually holds 22,260 people. CTS Eventim operates the venue, part of Olympiapark Berlin. Semmel Concerts, part of CTS Eventim’s promoter network Eventim Live, is promoting the shows, as well as three more that have been confirmed for the site: German rap star Sido (Sept. 5), Helge Schneider (Sept. 6) and Wincent Weiss (Sept. 18). (Getty Images) United Kingdom Indoor Concerts Are Returning Limited capacities, e-tickets among government guidelines The U.K. government is rolling out the fourth stage of its five-stage roadmap to bring back performing arts in the country. Starting Aug. 1, audiences will be allowed back inside U.K. venues, but under the new regime audiences, performers and venue staff are expected to maintain a mandated distance at all times.
