Infinite Energy Center campus renovation underway

(Courtesy Infinite Energy Center) Expansion plans include a makeover of existing venues and adding an entertainment district Infinite Energy Center’s 118-acre Duluth, Ga. campus renovation, which includes renovations to the theater, an expansion of The Forum convention center, a new parking structure, a hotel, and a mixed use development, is currently underway. Gwinnett County, which owns the land and venues, is financing the project. It will be located on property that previously contained 5,000 parking spaces. In addition to the convention center, Infinite Energy Center includes an arena, theater and the Hudgens Center for Arts & Learning. Miller Theater’s Knox Music Institute opens

(Courtesy The Miller Theater) The Symphony Orchestra Augusta raised $2 million to fund new venue The Miller Theater in Augusta, Ga., celebrated the opening of its final phase, the Knox Music Institute, with a ribbon cutting on September 5. The adjacent 2,000-square-foot space was funded through $2 million in private donations raised by the Symphony Orchestra Augusta over the last 20 months. “We always planned the institute to be part of the theater, which opened in 2018, but the fundraising took a while,” said Marty Elliott, the theater’s general manager. A rendering shows the view from center stage at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts. (Courtesy Greensboro Coliseum Complex) North Carolina’s Greensboro Coliseum Complex is adding to its collection of facilities.  Piedmont Hall, a 20,000-square-foot flex-space facility, had its ceremonial ribbon cutting Sept. 5 and opened Sept. 6 across the street from the complex. The venue is in an old Coca-Cola bottling company warehouse that underwent a $4 million renovation funded by sponsorships tied to vendors Tickemaster and Spectra Food Services. “We did an analysis and found that younger people wanted something to do,” said Scott Johnson, the complex’s deputy director. “This industrial space appeals to them, and offers a standing-room-only concert venue that was needed in our community.”  The space includes multiple levels, with a sunken dance floor pit and a stage 42 inches above it. Dan Markham, executive director of sales, booking and event management How did you do last year? Last year was great, with 2018 overtaking 2017 as the best year in the history of the 18-year-old arena. It was a combination of juxtaposing some shows to accommodate a heavier schedule last year. We had quite a few shows do multiple days. One of the big pluses here is we have an easy building to load in and out of. We also get a lot of rehearsals. We also did some huge shows that we were fortunate to get, what I’d call bucket list shows. Big shows Paul McCartney, U2, Justin Timberlake and Childish Gambino were big ones.
