Oak View Group Gets Savannah Deal

The city of Savannah, Ga., has contracted Oak View Group to manage the new Savannah Arena, shown here in a rendering. (Courtesy Perkins + Will) Firm will manage new arena, working with Live Nation, Delaware North Oak View Group has won the contract to manage Savannah Arena in Georgia. (Courtesy McMenamins)  McMenamins finds “sweet spot” at 700 capacity in historic building Tacoma is getting an addition to its local music scene with the opening of the new 700-capacity Spanish Ballroom on April 24. The live music venue is inside McMenamins Elks Temple, a former Elks Lodge turned hotel and entertainment complex, and adjacent to the Spanish Steps in Tacoma’s downtown core. “There was no venue with this capacity in Tacoma,” said Jimi Biron, director of entertainment and venue programming for the Pacific Northwest’s McMenamins, which own 60 locations, including live entertainment venues the Edgefield Amphitheater in Troutdale, Ore.; the Queen Anne in Seattle; and the Bagdad Theater in Portland. “There are 400-capacity clubs and some 1,000-plus-capacity spaces in Tacoma but nothing in the 700-capacity.” Biron said. “We think we found a sweet spot. Survey: Ticket Buying Shifts Past Start Time

Last-minute sales on upswing, ticketing company says New research from a survey by ticket company Gametime shows that 27% of fans are now buying event tickets after the start of the event, a significant disruption to the traditional pattern of fans buying tickets ahead of time, sometimes weeks or months before the event. “The wave is crashing on the beach for the industry and the research is showing us that this behavior is here to stay,” said Brad Griffith, Gametime’s CEO. “It feels like 2019 is the year that last-minute will make huge impact. Bockelman Makes Move to Cleveland

Brooke Bockelman.  She’ll manage booking as VP at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Recently renamed Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse — formerly Quicken Loans Arena — hired Brooke Bockelman as is vice president of booking. Bockelman was most recently director of booking for Columbus Arena Sports & Entertainment, the organization responsible for handling events for Nationwide Arena, the Schottenstein Center and Ohio Stadium, all in Columbus, Ohio. Bockelman will manage all aspects of event booking for Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, including budgeting, event production, promotion and negotiation. The arena’s event calendar includes games for sports tenants the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA and the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters Bockelman spent seven years with CASE in positions including booking manager and booking coordinator, where she served as the primary contact for all arena usage requests, including schedules for the NHL Columbus Blue Jackets and sports teams from Ohio State University. Pressman Joins Center Theatre Group

Meghan Pressman. (Teresa Castracane) She becomes managing director and CEO of Los Angeles organization Los Angeles’ Center Theatre Group has selected Meghan Pressman as its managing director and CEO. Pressman joins from Washington, D.C.’s, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, where she has been managing director since 2014. Pressman will oversee all of Center Theatre Group’s management, finances, communications, marketing, institutional advancement, technology and human resources and will work with artistic director Michael Ritchie in leading Center Theatre venues Ahmanson Theatre, Mark Taper Forum and Kirk Douglas Theatre. The search for a new CEO was conducted by Phillips Oppenheim and the organization’s board of directors.
