Jubilant UBS Arena Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony A Long Time Coming For Islanders

Fans wait outside UBS Arena for the first New York Islanders NHL hockey game, against the Calgary Flames, on Saturday, Nov. 20, in Elmont, N.Y. After a three-decades-long saga to have their own home in the metropolitan area, the New York Islanders celebrated the official opening of UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. “This is a historic day for the New York Islanders organization,” said team co-owner Jon Ledecky. The atmosphere at the event, held a day before the Islanders’ opening games over the weekend against Calgary and Toronto, was jubilant.
