Hapka Leaving AEG Post in Berlin

Michael Hapka joined AEG’s Berlin operation in 2012. Mercedes-Benz Arena GM out as company restructures Michael Hapka, vice president and managing director of Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin, is leaving Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns and operates the arena. Hapka spent more than eight years in his role, joining AEG in October 2012 as managing director of the 17,000-capacity arena in the German capital. Ole Hertel will take over as general manager. Hertel worked as senior director of events and deputy general manager at Mercedes-Benz Arena and has been in charge of AEG’s events division in Berlin since 2008. The move comes as AEG undergoes operational restructuring in light of the challenges posed to the live events industry by the coronavirus pandemic. Live Music, Fans Returning to WiZink Center

(Getty Images) Plan for new slate of shows includes more tech and an audience The operators of WiZink Center in the Spanish capital, Madrid, announced they have confirmed several artists for paid livestreamed concerts that will be performed before at least some fans inside the building. Working with the venue’s managing company, Impulsa Eventos e Instalaciones, as well as telecommunications company Telefónica, the plan is to take the concept of live streams to another level. To help with that, the venue has installed production you’d expect when broadcasting popular sports events but not necessarily concerts. Showlight Takes a Long-Term View

(Getty Images) Citing recovery time for industry, conference looks to 2022 Nomadic lighting conference Showlight announced its 2021 edition won’t take place because of the uncertainty surrounding the lifting of government-imposed restrictions resulting from the threat of COVID-19. The next edition of the quadrennial event would have taken place May 22-25 in Fontainebleau, France.
