(Courtesy NEC Group)  NEC Group, Lothian Leisure Development take lead on 8,000-capacity venue The U.K.’s NEC Group is partnering with entertainment, leisure and sports venue consultancy Lothian Leisure Development to deliver a new privately funded 8,000-capacity arena for Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh. The new building will be in Straiton, about five miles south of Edinburgh’s city center. The sum of the private investment wasn’t disclosed. The next milestone for the project is expected to be a planning application by the end of 2020. An opening date has not been scheduled. The plan is to transform the 30-acre site into a mixed-use leisure and entertainment destination with the arena at its core. Proposals for the wider development include conference, retail and leisure space, a movie theater and two hotels.
