(OCCC.net) New program will certify facilities’ disinfecting efforts A new facility hygiene accreditation program formally unveiled Thursday by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council offers live event venues and other industries detailed guidelines and performance criteria on sanitation, disinfection and infectious disease prevention best practices. When followed, the program leads to a formal accreditation that’s expected be a key part of ensuring safety and restoring confidence amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. (Courtesy Orange County Convention Center) Move brings him to second-largest U.S. convention center “Drinking from a fire hose” is how new Orange County Convention Center Executive Director Mark Tester described his first days on the job after starting Feb. 17 after departing his post as director of the Austin (Texas) Convention Center. Tester, a Purdue University alum, came to Orlando, Fla., from his job as director of the Austin (Texas) Convention Center. He had been in Austin since 2008 and before that was senior director of sales and marketing at Chicago’s McCormick Place, the country’s largest convention center, which he joined in 2005. (Courtesy Orange County Convention Center) He departs Austin for second-largest facility in the country Mark Tester, director of the Austin (Texas) Convention Center since 2008, has been named executive director of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. In his new role, which he will assume Feb. 10 pending confirmation by the Orange County Board of Commissioners at its meeting Tuesday, Tester will be responsible for overall operations, planning, marketing and all activities at the Orange County center, according to an announcement by Orlando Mayor Jerry Demings. Tester is taking on the job of running the second-largest convention center in North America at 7 million square feet, including 2.1 million square feet of exhibit space.
