That’s not the case in concert touring, as evidenced by the marquee names on this month’s Hot Tickets charts. With the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney each landing three sold-out concert engagements in the More Than 30,000 Capacity category — along with performances by Dead & Company, Billy Joel and Phil Collins — the old guard touring giants are alive and well in 2019. The Stones lead the charge with sold-out stadium dates in three U.S. markets topped by a $21.7 million gross from two nights at Chicago’s Soldier Field. (Getty Images) Border-crossing McCartney rules big-venue chart with LA, Vancouver shows When Paul McCartney plays, he tops charts, and this week is no exception: Sir Paul took the top two spots on our More Than 15,000 Capacity Hot Tickets chart performing on his Freshen Up tour in two countries. A U.S. show at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium took the No. 1 spot, grossing $7,015,989. His gig a few days earlier in Canada at Vancouver’s B.C. Place grabbed the No. 2 slot, with a gross of $4,520,588. Tickets ranged from $26.73 to $299; AEG Presents is the promoter of the tour. McCartney also took spots No. 4 and 5 with concerts in San Jose, Calif., and Phoenix.
