Rays See Transactions Increase With All-Cashless

The Tampa Bay Rays became the first big league team to run an all-cashless venue this season. Team saw ‘resistance fall by the wayside’ at Tropicana Field The Tampa Bay Rays, the first big league team to run an all-cashless venue to expedite sales of concessions, retail, tickets and parking, saw a slight increase in food and drink transactions at Tropicana Field for the 2019 season. The Rays used multiple technology platforms to go cash-free across all lines of business. Talty Back Home Again in Indiana

Ex-U.S. Bank Stadium GM starts as Indiana Sports Corp. COO Veteran stadium manager Patrick Talty has joined the Indiana Sports Corp. as its chief operating officer. His first day on the job was Tuesday. Talty has spent more than 20 years in sports and entertainment, including management roles at NFL stadiums in Minneapolis and Phoenix, in addition to stints at WWE and Zayed Sports City, a complex in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. For Talty, it’s a return to Indianapolis, where he began his career at the RCA Dome and the Indiana Convention Center. He worked there from 1996 to 2001.  Almost 20 years later, in his new post, Talty is in charge of the group’s effort to secure major events such as the Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four and Olympic Trials across multiple sports. Cotton Bowl Upgrades Ready for OU-Texas

Spectra, Ed Campbell Co. roll out concession improvements for beer sales Fans of Texas and Oklahoma crowd into Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas for last year’s college football game. (Getty Images) Spectra is making its presence felt at Fair Park in Dallas beyond managing the 277-acre campus. The company, partnering with longtime concessionaire Ed Campbell, has invested a seven-figure sum to upgrade Cotton Bowl Stadium, home of the annual Oklahoma-Texas college football game. The Ed Campbell Co. has run the food service at Fair Park for about 40 years, including the Cotton Bowl, which plays host to a handful of college football games and soccer matches every year. In January, Spectra took over park operations with an initial focus on improving the stadium. 49ers Add Supporters Section

Members of a San Francisco 49ers fan club from Los Angeles filled the new supporters section at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday. (Courtesy San Francisco 49ers X2) Idea drawn from soccer makes debut at Levi’s Stadium The San Francisco 49ers, putting a twist on an idea from Major League Soccer, have formed the Gold Mine, a new supporters section at Levi’s Stadium.  The free-admission space, which made its debut for the Sept. 22 regular-season home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, is reserved for the 49ers’ fan clubs, most traveling to the Bay Area from other markets.  The Gold Mine is a section of 45 temporary seats installed on risers set up on the Dignity Health Plaza in the stadium’s southwest corner. For Sunday’s game, a fan club from Los Angeles filled those seats, leading coordinated cheers with support from the team’s iconic foghorn, the drumline and the Gold Rush cheerleaders. Square Gets Around, Into Sports Venues

(Courtesy Square) Payment tech company is POS vendor for food, retail at Chase Center Square, the technology firm many consumers are familiar with from paying cabbies and food trucks with credit cards, is expanding its mobile payment system into sports venues. Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors’ new $1.6 billion arena, has Square as its point-of-sale vendor for all food and retail outlets, including outdoor bars and food stands next to the facility.
