Teams, Venues Getting Ready to Place Their Bets

One year after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the Professional Amateur Sports Protection Act, teams and facilities are working through all the regulations of their respective states and leagues. For those whose states make sports wagering legal, they want to be ready to capitalize on a new revenue source and offer a new amenity for their fans. To date, 11 states plus the District of Columbia have legalized sports betting with various restrictions, depending on the state. Summer Refreshments: Live Nation Starts Rolling Out Renovations at Amphitheaters

(Don Muret / Staff) Sports architect Dan Meis developed a plan that packages improvements for every part of the operation, from premium spaces to the back of the house Live nation is investing millions of dollars to renovate its 50-plus amphitheaters over the next five years. The upgrades touch all aspects of operations, from parking to concessions, restrooms and technology, said Tom See, the company’s president of concerts for U.S. venues. Reserved lawn sections, improved premium spaces with communal boxes and VIP clubs, plus back-of-house renovations to better accommodate touring artists, are part of refreshing the outdoor music venues, See said. Live Nation Sprinkles In Star Power at Concessions

(Courtesy Live Nation) Live Nation has tapped into the celebrity chef craze as part of upgrading the food operation at its amphitheaters.  The company, in tandem with Legends Hospitality, the food provider at most of those venues, has signed deals with Texas barbecue specialist Tim Love, Italian restaurateur Fabio Viviani and Oprah Winfrey’s personal chef, Art Smith, for his signature fried chicken recipe. In addition, actor Danny Trejo (tacos) and musician QuestLove (vegan cheesesteaks), a member of the hip-hop group The Roots, have signed deals with Live Nation to feature their authentic dishes at some amphitheaters.  “We were the first entertainment venue to introduce the (meatless) Impossible Burger (in 2018), and QuestLove is on a mission to create cheesesteaks leveraging that brand and product,” said Tom See, Live Nation’s president of U.S. venues.… Continue Reading Live Nation Sprinkles In Star Power at Concessions

Mountain Jam Returns to Form

Mountain Jam festival founder Gary Chetkof calls the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts main stage “the Taj Mahal of amphitheaters.” (Courtesy Mountain Jam) Festival moves to Woodstock site, embraces jam-band roots Mountain Jam, the upstate New York music festival celebrating the spirit of the original Woodstock, marks its 15th year with a new production team, a new venue and a renewed commitment to its jam-band roots. Gary Chetkof, owner of Radio Woodstock and founder of Mountain Jam, formed a new partnership with Live Nation and relocated the festival from Hunter Mountain to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, about a two-hour drive southwest of the old site. (Getty Images) RFP seeks designer for end zone units with no views to field The NFL’s Carolina Panthers plan to build bunker suites at Bank of America Stadium that are scheduled to open for the 2020 season, according to a request for proposal issued to sports architects. VenuesNow obtained the RFP and reached out to the Panthers. Tom Glick, the team’s president of business operations, and Scott Paul, vice president of stadium operations, did not return emails for comment.
