Michael Moves From MSG to XFL

(Courtesy XFL) He’ll be chief technology officer for new football league New football league the XFL, which is scheduled to begin play next year, has named David Michael its chief technology officer. Michael comes from The Madison Square Garden Co., where he was chief information officer. Michael will be responsible for developing and overseeing all enterprise, digital product and football technology strategies and initiatives for the league and its eight teams. At MSG, Michael led the customer-facing digital transformation program and oversaw enterprisewide technology infrastructure, support and business applications. Before working at MSG, Michael held positions at GroupM North America, UBM Tech and PR Newswire.

Iowa State’s Goldfinch Room Soars

(Courtesy Ed Laub) Intimate club-like space was created to be a “listening room” In early 2019, Iowa State Center opened the Goldfinch Room, an intimate 80-capacity room tucked away inside Stephens Auditorium. It was a hit from the start with fans and artists, with shows often selling out within days of the on sale. “There are lots of places to see music, but mostly bars, and not somewhere to sit down and enjoy the music,” said Tammy Koolbeck, Iowa State Center’s executive director for management company VenuWorks. “We wanted to create a space where people could listen to the music.” Named after the state’s official bird, the dedicated space for singer-songwriters was designed to showcase Iowa artists. BancorpSouth venues getting an upgrade

BancorpSouth Arena and Conference Center in Tupelo, Miss., is getting $15.2 million in improvements. (Courtesy BancorpSouth Arena) Renovation expected to increase bookings at convention center The Tupelo, Miss., city council has unanimously approved a $15.2 million upgrade to the BancorpSouth Arena and Conference Center that will connect the 10,000-seat arena and the adjacent convention center. “This is something we’ve been working on since 2014 and it’s taken five years to see it come to fruition,” said Todd Hunt, executive director of the venue. “The arena was built in 1993. In 2006, the city built a convention center that was operated by Hilton Garden. The city took over the conference center in 2013 and has managed both properties since then.
