(Courtesy Phoenix Suns) Work continues at Talking Stick Resort Arena on $250M project The transformation of Talking Stick Resort Arena, the home of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, was slated to begin after a concert by the Eagles on April 26. When COVID-19 swept the world and shut down sports and entertainment, crews were able to start the overhaul early. “With the unfortunate shutdown and postponement of the season and the rest of our events, we were able to start on the work sooner than we anticipated,” said Ralph Marchetta, the arena’s general manager. “We gained about three weeks. (Courtesy Phoenix Suns) Event-level clubs, entry pavilion changes planned for Talking Stick Resort Arena The Phoenix Suns are transforming Talking Stick Resort Arena with three new event-level clubs, including a much-needed courtside club; a reconfigured entry pavilion; and two corner bars integrated into the seating bowl off the main concourse. In addition, the Suns are introducing bunker suites, a product common at other big league venues. In Phoenix, the ultra-premium spaces, typically underneath the stands with no views to the game, are situated on the arena’s south end. They’re being sold on 10-year terms at an annual cost of $750,000. Those patrons’ seats to watch the game are in the first few rows of the lower bowl. Arizona Arts Center Marks Its 30th

The venue kicked off the season with Melissa Etheridge, Squeeze, Strangelove: The Depeche Mode Experience and a screening of “Say Anything” hosted by actor John Cusack, all entertainers who have inspired Mac Lennan. “I had an ’80s dream fulfilled every minute of every day,” Mac Lennan said with a laugh. “I think we finally have built the team and put all the pieces into place.” A high point of the season will be the Center Stage fundraiser, a 30th anniversary gala called “Groovin’ Through the Decades,” on Oct. 26. Arenas in that audience magnet were among the most prosperous in the region during the past year, attracting large crowds to see a steady parade of boldface names and major stage productions. (Courtesy Talking Stick Resort Arena) Firms will design and build $230 million in upgrades The NBA’s Phoenix Suns have selected HOK and Okland to design and build $230 million in upgrades to Talking Stick Resort Arena, sources familiar with the decision said. In an email, Ralph Marchetta, the Suns’ senior vice president of ticket operations and general manager for sports and entertainment services, would not confirm the selections. “We have not entered into a contract and closed procurement yet,” Marchetta said. The agreements with HOK and Okland are separate contracts. Okland will serve as construction manager at risk, sources said.
