FC Cincinnati Shows Off New Renderings

A grand staircase on the stadium’s east side will welcome supporters. (Courtesy Populous) Populous emphasizes exterior lighting and a finned facade for MLS stadium Final designs for FC Cincinnati’s $250 million privately funded West End Stadium revealed Tuesday take exterior venue lighting to a new level. Scheduled to open in March 2021, the 26,000- to 26,500-seat venue includes a custom LED lighting program on each of the 513 vertical fins that form a wavelike external structure to enclose the stadium. The fins will help the stadium appear to glow when lit for evening events, said Populous senior principal Jonathan Mallie, director of the firm’s New York office and now the leader of the design. The feature, which Mallie said has not been used in stadium design before, will allow motion sequences on the east facade.   “The idea of experiential graphics on the lighting effects will really change the experience of walking… Continue Reading FC Cincinnati Shows Off New Renderings

(Courtesy Centerplate) Centerplate gets to know symphony audience in advance of planned new park When Centerplate served guests of the San Diego Symphony’s outdoor Bayside Summer Nights event at Embarcadero Marina Park South for the first time Friday as part of a new long-term partnership, the concessionaire did more than push out tacos, cocktails and pizza. Wimbledon Fare: More Than Strawberries

For the annual tennis tournament, the emphasis is on quality. (Courtesy All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club) ‘Trying to deliver a food and drink experience that matches our aspiration of delivering tennis in an English garden’ LONDON – Wimbledon lies awash in a sea of green. From grass to ivy to facades, green plays across the southwest London grounds, but it is red that peppers color into the green. Specifically, 1.4 million single dots of strawberry red as The Championships, Europe’s largest annual catering event, serves up its staple strawberries and cream. Strawberries, though, account for just one aspect in what amounts to a 24-hour-a-day, two-week effort at the Grand Slam tennis event. “From our point of view, we are trying to deliver a food and drink experience that matches our aspiration of delivering tennis in an English garden,” said Anthony Davies, Wimbledon head of food and drink. “Choice… Continue Reading Wimbledon Fare: More Than Strawberries

New MLS Venues Renew Premium Hospitality

The Sunset Club, an open-air gathering spot at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, home of LAFC. (Courtesy LAFC) Concessionaires help design social experiences, wider range of offerings for soccer fans  Already this Major League Soccer season, Minnesota United FC has opened $250 million Allianz Field and the Portland Timbers have pumped $85 million into expanding and renovating Providence Park. Both venues, plus 2017 newcomers Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles and Audi Field in Washington, D.C., came with a rethinking of the way MLS delivers premium hospitality, now that the league’s teams largely have their own buildings. Building venues specifically for the sport has allowed concessionaires to work with architects and design experiences into the construction. It also offers better programming to align with expanded ticket offerings, such as all-inclusive, open-air social gathering spots and a broader mix of higher-end clubs and suites.  “We see an increase… Continue Reading New MLS Venues Renew Premium Hospitality

MLB Bringing Baseball Food to London

London Stadium is being prepared for the arrival of Major League Baseball on Saturday and Sunday. (Getty Images) Delaware North puts months of planning into Red Sox-Yankees games When Major League Baseball descends upon London Stadium on Saturday and Sunday for two games between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, the first MLB games to be played in Europe, it will bring along the fanfare of America’s pastime. That will include plenty of USA in the food and beverage.  “The thing about the American food plan is it is all interesting, all part of the entertainment,” said Daniel Clark, operations director for U.K. business at Delaware North, concessionaire for the stadium. “You engage eating as part of the occasion, so the menu items are driven on Americana, grande nachos and super dogs loaded with pulled pork.”  Clark’s team visited Delaware North MLB locations in Atlanta and St. Louis… Continue Reading MLB Bringing Baseball Food to London
